Abstract:
Biomimetic and electrochemical studies showed that some carboxylic acids stabilized Mn3+ in aqueous solution by complex formation. Malonic acid was the most efficient ligand among the acids used. Mn3+ complexes with α-hydroxycarboxylic acids functioned as diffusible oxidants in lignin model compound oxidations, and the mediating efficiency of these complexes was not directly related to their redox potentials.
