Abstract:
Tetraalkylammonium trifluoromethanesulfonates R4N+ -O3SCF3 are comparable to tetraalkylammonium perchlorates and tetrafluoroborates as supporting electrolytes for both anodic and cathodic cyclic voltammetric studies and for controlled potential bulk electrolysis. In addition they are non-oxidizing and do not react with highly oxidized substrates (sic). R4 N+ -O3SCF3 (R = Et, Pr, Bu) were prepared from other quaternary ammonium salts, or in 50-75% yield by treating R3N with CF3SO3R.
